Been a busy week here in The Rabbit Hole.

Creating, sorting and our very favorite part before a show...

Tomorrow is the Trunk show and TRUNKS are just what I am bringing...Almost!

I rented 3 tables for this event...THREE Tables?

What was I thinking?

Thank goodness  "Mister ROB" is being a good chap and coming with on the 7.5 hour drive.

LOTS fit into his Giant SUV that I always give him crap for driving

a gas guzzler.

(Though it will come in handy this fine weekend, indeed!!!)

Was about time I cleaned the studio of odds and ends that I am not going to use,

so 1 table will be my art, blah, blah blah and the other two

tables will be overflowing with Vintage Mixed Media Odds & Ends Supply Goodness!!!

NEW Class for November

My Great Friend Rita Reade and I are teaming up together to teach 

a Bling Baby Bottle and Tealight Crown class.

These little cuties are only a few of the types of bisque dolls that 

you will get to choose from.  

Other darlings are on their way via The Doll Stork to me as we speak.

All supplies are included, please bring your own soldering Iron.
You will learn how to create your own Bling Baby bottle and make one tiny crown.
For either the baby’s head or for a tea light.
 If you are super proficient and time allows, you can even make two crowns.

Dia de Los Muertos Cross

I adore Dia de Los Muertos and what it symbolizes.

Some of my favorite pieces are of this subject matter.

A few months back, I acquired these really cool wooden

crosses.  They were plain and ready to be re-created.

Figured I would do some sort of Mexican Folk art on them.

Mojo hit and away I went.

First a base color.

Red or Turquoise, went with the later.

Had these baby heads that arrived broken due to poor packing

on the part of the shipper.

The heads were cracked leaving just the front part of the head.

They sat on my shelf for several months waiting for inspiration.

Then it finally came to me.

Dia De Los Muertos Babies...How FUN!

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this and have

the other to finish.

One for me and one for sale.

Going to submit it to an the DA Art Gallery in Pomona

for display in a collective exhibition featuring Day of the Dead

art for the months of October and November.

Have to get to work on my signature skull earrings!

Pink AND Cream

So, I had a lot of fun creating this piece yesterday and 

a GREAT BIG....THANK YOU to my friends who gave me advice on the colors.

It has been "Lisa-fied"

Started with the Antique White base and went on from there.

I love old Barbola roses, so decided to colorize

the little rose swags that surround the base.

Then it was 2 layers of browns, rubs of that pink and then rubs of gold.

I was seriously at an impasse as to what to do with the 

ovals that had the word "Spiegel" in them.

Thought about just doing my name as that is what I do business under, but bleck.

Branding is one thing, but my name in four places around the tops seems so pretentious.

Since a lot of my other displays have random letters and most of my new jewelry line has words

and phrases of inspiration, I went with the words in the ovals with of a base of sweet scrapbook paper.

The same scrapbook paper used in the ovals was placed at the interior bottom.

It creates a cohesive design and is not obtrusive enough to compete with whatever is placed on top.

Then, since I was on a roll, took this fun cup holder

purchased at a thrift store years ago.

Dang, I forgot to take a before of this, but it was bright white with decoupaged butterflies on it.

Had stuck a doll head on top of it for the past two years.

So, it also got re-done and so continues the unification

of my display pieces.

Painted the background of this frame on the original little canvas that was inside.

Loosely mimicking the scrapbook paper pattern and colors used on the case.

Now, onto a few more pieces to re-do today.

Pink or Cream?

Okay Girls...Opinion Poll here...

Last Month in Phoenix at Art Unraveled, my pal Tricia

took me to Zinnia's, this fabulous Antique store that she has two spaces in.

I found this case and no brainer, had to buy it.

It was the only thing I bought on my trip and it was $62.00.

It is a vintage counter display for Spiegel Watches.

My son Brandon cut the inside bottom from me as it had those

slot thingys for watched to slide into.

It is perfect for shows as it is Plastic and the windows are clear acrylic.

But I want to repaint it and antique it...SOOO.

Then it will be antiqued with a rub of gold.

Soldering Insanity...

or is it Soldering, Insanely???

It is a LOVE/HATE relationship for me.

Just like when I use to do mosaic work.

LOVE the outcome and design portions.

In soldering, copper foil taping hundreds of crystals and baubles sucks,
but I LOOOOVE melting the solder and assembling the pieces.

In mosaic work, I LOVE cutting with the Tile saw and creating the assemblage...but
it is the last process I dislike, grouting.

Anyway, I digress.

Finally got to some projects that have been sitting on my shelf and 

wandering around my head for some time.

I have on the past year collected some soldered pieces from some artists I truly respect

and have now added to my collection.

LOVE my Bling Baby Bottle.

Will make more of these to sell.

The bottle with the Pink Tulip was made by Darlah Mulloy of Le Muse.

The cute "Vintage" bauble was made by my Best Amica Rita Reade

The French dancing girl is one of the first pendants I soldered.

Rita also made this darling Amore bottle that she gifted to me.

This Amazing "Artist" Frida Cloche was made by my friend

Robin taught me how to solder, was it 2 or  years ago, I am not sure!

All I know is I had to have this Frida.

Made the Sacred Heart bottle. 

I soldered the Lady Bust, but the bottle was purchased from another good friend

of mine Tara Wilson of http://lulumaxjewelry.blogspot.com.

I instantly knew I wanted to solder on this piece, it was full of wine

and NO I did not drink it...it was poured into my Dia De Los Muerte Skull.

I made two of these crowns and 6 of the ones below.

These are small and will be for sale at my upcoming shows.

They are FABULOUS with a tealight inside them

DARLING!

The Mermaid crown is just lovely

Sea glass, crystals and baubles...with a tiny vintage mermaid 

encased in a shadow box up front.

The "State of Grace" crown is an assemblage

of lots of metal and crystals.

It too looks great with a candle in the middle as does the mermaid crown.

The above crown I made with my friend Rita at a class we taught together.

My Dia de los Muerte skull is a Vodka Bottle I bought just so

I could have the bottle...we had fun drinking the vodka too!

Love my Quan Yin statues, she is on a really pretty etched bottle

with a torch soldered and hammered pendant

which says "Be the Change".

This was the Crown Rita and I just taught a couple weeks ago at my home studio.

Look for more soldering classes from Rita and I in a few months.

After my hands heal from soldering hundreds of crystals!

Symbols of faith

I am in the midst of getting ready to teach a crown class
here next Saturday
with my good friend Rita Reade of Mammabellarte

Also, have been getting ready for my next show The Vintage Marketplace Sep 9th/10th.

While creating/pricing, etc...I came across some jewelry projects I have been meaning to create,
just for me.  You know, the shoemakers kids have no shoes...
These are pieces that I have been collecting over the years.
Fun stuff.

Firstly I have been wanting to make a Multi Faith piece for years.
 Regardless of what Faith you follow, you follow with your heart.
I respect people of Faith and respect ALL Faiths, even those that I might not understand or agree with.
I believe we are all on our own individual path and that it is not up to any of us to
judge or change people.
So much division stems from religious beliefs.
Look at the continual battle in the middle east,
the battle over our own political policies in this country often stem from religious beliefs.
I don't even want to talk about the hypocrisy of many religious people
who are not practicing what they preach.

Anyway, I could go on and on about this subject as I have studied the Bible and
multiple religions for many years.

Ultimately, Faith is a Choice and until there is PEACE among brethren of ALL Faiths,
this world will suffer.

 The Focal is the Hamsa Symbol.  It is a Locket that I FOUGHT for on EBAY.
It is totally COOL!  On the interior I resined in an Eye symbol.

The Cross is obviously Christian and the charm on the right
is a Hindu Goddess.

The Hamsa Symbol predates Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
It over the years became identified with both Judaism and Islam.
It is to ward off the evil eye or just tragedy in general.

Up the left side of the necklace is a vintage blue enamel "om" symbol.
The Om is associated with these religions...Dharma, Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism.

Next up my chain is the Yin/Yang symbol.
Predominately a Chinese symbol with origins in Taoism and Confucianism.
It basically means balance.  Dark/light, for every thing in life there is a counter
to balance it all out.

The Dream catcher symbol is of the American Indian Ojibwa Tribe.
Not so much a religious symbol, but as their religion was earth based, it is one
of catching good dreams and letting the bad pass through.
May New Age philosophies have adopted this symbol.

Top left symbol is a Star of David with a tiny cross inside it.
It is the symbol of Messianic Jews.  That would be a Jewish person who
believes Jesus is the Messiah.
(on a side note, I had a few Christian woman who refused to purchase
any of my jewelry that had this symbol on it.)
I wanted to remind them the Jesus was a Jew, but held my tongue.

The crescent moon with a star is often associated with Islam

It also however predates Islam but has been used in Catholicism under figures of Mary
and in other ancient religions as well.

The vintage red glass Buddha is obviously Buddhist.

The Heart charm has the Virgin Mary on it
and is of course, Catholic.

Another Star of David that is actually the letters LOVE.

This coin is the language Farsi.  It is the predominent language spoken in the Middle East.
I have no idea what this coin says.
Anyone know Farsi?

Lastly, I finished my Ode to Dr Seuss Necklace and made a matching bracelet of
Vintage enamel fishies!

This little Anklet I am calling my Lucky Charm anklet.
Religious and luck symbols.

Lastly is my Baubly Spherical bracelet.
I Like SPHERES and these are random vintage ones
that I have held onto.

Maybe I like spheres because of starring at the moon every chance I could as a child and still do.
That spheres remind me of our Earth and that we are all ONE humanity on it.
