Orphans

The recent story in the headlines about the Mother who put her 7 year old adopted Russian son on a plane back to Russia has really disturbed me.
What a horribly story.
I judge not except that the lives that orphans lead is so sad and ridiculously unfair.

I found this poem today while doing research for some Mother's Day Jewelery...it made me think of all of the children that never feel the love of a mother.
It made me think of my own children and how much I Love each of them.

My Mother
Jane Taylor
1783-1824

Who fed me from her gentle breast
And hushed me in her arms to rest,
and on my cheek sweet kisses prest?
My mother
When sleep forsook my open eye,
who was it sung sweet lullaby
and rocked me that I should not cry?
My mother

Who sat and watched my infant head
When sleeping in my cradle bed,
and tears of sweet affection shed?
My mother

When pain and sickness made me cry,
Who gazed upon my heavy eye
and wept, for fear that I should die?
My mother

Who ran to help me when I fell
And would some pretty story tell,
or kiss the part to make me well?
My mother

Who taught my infant lips to pray,
to love God's hold word and day,
And walk in wisdom's pleasant way?
My mother

And I can ever cease to be
Affectionate and kind to thee
Who wast so very kind to me,-
My mother

Oh no, the thought I cannot bear:
And if so God please my life to spare
I hope I shall reward thy care,
My mother

When thou art feeble, old an gray,
My healthy arm shall be thy stay,
And I will soothe thy pains away,
My mother.

And when I see thee hang thy head,
'twill be my turn to watch thy bed,
and tears of sweet affection shed,-
My mother

Birth of a painting

A few months ago at my friend Beth's office, one of the graphic artists that works in her office had this super cute ad for Nordie's pinned above her desk.  I asked for a copy.

I have been really wanting to maker her my own.
Today it was just so pretty as I sat in my garden,  the air fragrant with blossoms from my grapefruit and lemon trees...roses, poppies, salvia, lavender, snapdragons, daisies, mallow and more blooming everywhere.

I had to start her...

I was completely mesmerized by this image...check back to see my version, maybe next week.

Serving up Spring

Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!
~Thomas Blackburn, "An Easter Hymn"

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden.  ~Ruth Stout

The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hillside's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven -
All's right with the world!
~Robert Browning

May Each of your hearts Be filled with Love and the colors of Spring this Easter.

XO,
Lisa
